I went to look at the ZMACS manual the other day and noticed there is a link to a V2 version.
What is the difference between V1 and V2? I can’t seem to find any other information on the V2 and I didn’t see any differences listed in its respective manual.
I am using my PS-100 in the switched attenuator loop set to 8 ohms for both the amp and speaker selections, with the ZMACS set for the appropriate amp and cabinet respective impedances, per the current manual as I don’t always want to use the attenuation. I also recall this being reinforced during an episode of the malcontents. Do I have that set up correctly?
Im pretty sure they had to make v2 to comply with another amp switcher companies patent for the internal switching ability. So v2 does the switching remotely/externally. Meaning those who have v1 basically get that feature while all new zmacs need to have it removed. If im wrong please correct me but ive been researching alot and that’s my understanding. I own a zmacs v1 and figuring out which power station i should get. Also if i should get a cyclops etc. With the v2 zmacs are there any benefits from remote bypass? Like maybe more control over the attenuator loops?
To switch the PS-100 with the V2, you’ll need a 3 conductor speaker cable that connects from the PS-100 speaker Out to the switched loop return. Next, set the PS-100 to Operate mode.
You can now use the ZMAX LOOP button to switch the PS-100 between Operate and Bypass mode.
“With the v2 zmacs are there any benefits from remote bypass? Like maybe more control over the attenuator loops?”
Not really. The difference is that you would be switching the PS-2/PS-100 bypass mode remotely rather than activating or deactivating the ZMACS loop internally.
Dave, where can I source a 3-conductor speaker cable? Everything I see for 1/4" Speaker cables are TS connections only, and all the TRS cables I’m finding are specified as patch/audio cables. I have a V2 ZMACS and PS-100 that did not switch out as you described when using a standard Mogami Studio TS speaker cable as I tried it. I have rewired it to be in the standard loop and now I use the operate button on the PS-100.
Yeah, these used to be failrly common. These days they’re hard to find because the internet machine sucks at this distinction and manufacturers descriptions are beyond unhelpful as well.
We’re having them made and they will be available on our website soon.
