ZMACS: Cab Impedance Setting Memory

I have the ZMACS and use it to switch between an 8ohm cab and a 16ohm cab. Each time I power up the ZMACS I have to switch the impedance on the 16ohm cab from 8ohm to 16ohm before I play. Is there a way to get the ZMACS to remember that cab #2 is 16ohm even through a power cycle? Also, I hear no difference when switching between 8ohm and 16ohm when playing through cab #2. Is that normal?

Hello,

I think we have this feature request on the to-do list. Please standby.

Regards,

Dan - Did this ever get updated? Does the unit remember the last setting?

We spoke about it. It seems this cannot be addressed with a simple software update. Julian might want to comment more, but I think that is the summary. Sorry about that.

Thanks for the reply. I misinterpreted this line on the product page -

  • Allows switching between any of 4 amplifiers, 4 cabs and 2 attenuators.
  • Allows selection of 2 cabs simultaneously.
  • Safely handles 100 watts of continuous amplifier power.
  • Built-in high-fidelity audio grade impedance matching transformer.
  • Selectable Amp impedance - 2/4, 8 and 16 Ohms (programmable).
  • Selectable Cabinet impedance - 2/4, 8 and 16 Ohms (programmable).
  • Safety internal load for each unused amplifier output.
  • Switched and unswitched attenuator loops.
  • Front and rear panel instrument inputs.
  • Passive and active (buffered) instrument inputs.
  • Link Out for ganging multiple switching units.
  • Fully MIDI programmable and simple to operate.
  • Last used preset memory.<---------------------------------------------THIS LINE
  • Long cable load transfer.
  • Silent switching in all modes with no dropouts, pops or clicks.
  • Transformer isolated amplifier input sends eliminate annoying ground loop issues.
  • Remote switching control port controls Power Station PS-100 channel and loop select functions.
  • QuickSwitch mode allows simple preset selection when MIDI is not required.
  • 100% analog signal path

The only way I got around this was by leveraging MIDI.

Regarding “THIS LINE”:

It is still in the manual that way because when using MIDI, it is a valid statement.
We assume that very few people needing as deep a feature set as the ZMACS offers are not going to rely on something as inherently limiting as last used preset memory for manual settings.

That’s why that item is listed after “Fully MIDI programmable and simple to operate.”

Looks like I’m one of the very few,

We have two ZMACS set up in our demo room. They are on all the time. Since they draw so little juice when not switching we just don’t bother turning them off. However, there are power outages from time to time and we’ll find that even so, the last used settings are still there, including the impedance settings.

The other thing we do here is store often used settings as midi presets even though we don’t always use the midi controller. Both units always recover at least the last two used settings after a power outage. So, that’s something you could try. You don’t need to have a midi controller connected to do this. Just write a few presets including impedance settings for various heads and cabs using the store button.

Me too but I ended up going down the MIDI path. One benefit is that I can easily switch my amp / cab settings from the MIDI controller vs. having to go to my rack and ZMACS to do it. So, while I was not pleased that I could not store the settings without MIDI, I’m OK with how things ended up. I realize Fryette is not a huge company with backlog, but I’m still hoping there might be an 16x8 ZMACS someday. I would not care if it’s 8U because it would be worth it. The development and delivery of the PowerStation alone has made my music life awesome so I probably should not complain.

Thank you for all the help, fellas.
I do appreciate it.
