What's the best way to connect my Valvulator to my PS-100m

So I just got the Valvulator GDPI/IR and I want to use it as a preamp for my Power Station 100. I was surprised when reading the manual for the Valvulator that there were not specific diagrams for hooking it up like there is with the Power Station. So, with all these different outputs on the back, what would be the best way to hook these two up? I’ll be using a 2x12 cab so I won’t need the cab sim or IR.

Take a look at normal mode

Your PowerStation becomes the amp.

  • Connect the FX SEND (“TO AMP FX RETURN”)
  • To Power Station’s Line In or FX Return.

Ok cool. I clicked on that link above and it showed a diagram for external mode. Does external mode require a foot switch?

No there is switch for that also.

Piling on here. It seems to also work going from speaker out of GPDI/IR > PS amp in > PS speaker out > speakers.

Is either of these preferred?

Speaker out on the GPDI/IR is intended for speaker it’s an 8 Ohm output but very low power, about 1W. The power station line in has a lot of headroom so this is why it’s not distorting it. This signal has also been through the GPDI power amp, then does to the Power Station power amp. So you are hearing two power states in the sound. Might be more apparent when pushed. Very interesting!

That looks like a whole lot of nothing WRT the GPDI/IR
