ZMACS with 3 Heads and a Combo (with Speaker attached)

hey y’all,

plan is to run three heads and one AC30 (with silver bulldogs attached - amp has 16ohm load). i want to switch between all 4 amps via the zmacs but the ac30 don’t need a cab and no load at all. so what would be the config on the zmacs for the ac30?

thanks for any feedback - rgds,
frank

Hi Frank, Welcome to the Fryette forum! The only practical way to rig the AC30 combo into the ZMACS is the same way that you would connect any combo amp; out from the ZMACS to the AC30 input, then connect the speaker output jack of the AC30 to the Amp In on the ZMACS. Use a 1/4" female to 1/4" female adaptor and a short speaker cable to connect the AC30’s speaker directly to the ZMACS speaker cab out. This is the proper way to connect a combo amp to the ZMACS. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. Cheers! Gil

hey gil, thanks for the feedback - problem is the speakers are hard wired (it’s a original 1967 ac30). so i run is separately - rgds, frank

Hey @klangstube

You will not be able to insert any devices in between the amp and the speaker like this. If this were me, I would just leave it alone. What a classic amp!

Are you comfortable with doing small modifications yourself, soldering, etc.? If not, then I would take it to a local repair shop and just tell them what you want. I would probably. Remove the old speaker cable (keep it safe for restoring) and solder a new one from the speaker and a new one from the output transformer. Then on the loose ends I would attach speaker jacks and use female-to-female adaptor. It won’t be pretty.
