ZMACS ./. Amp Out

hey y‘all, the „amp out“ on my zmacs should carries the native, direct amp out (before any cab or loadbox, no IR - no cab), right? but the sound of this „amp out“ zmacs output changes when selecting different 8 ohm cabs (a selected real 8 ohm cab with mics sounds different to my ox box or my torpedo live). so the question is: why does this native „amp out“ sound changes with different 8 ohm cabs? thanks for a feedback - rgds, frank

Hi Frank,

Great question!

What you are calling the “native direct amp out” is a line level signal that feeds the Amp Direct jack on the ZMACS. Keep in mind that whichever amp is selected, that amp must still drive a load, and whichever load you select, whether that’s a cab or a reactive load, will interact with the output of your amp differently depending on the characteristics of the selected load.

An actual cab is going to sound a lot different than either the OX or Torpedo because those loads present different impedance characteristics to the amp than most of the real cabs they purport to emulate.

Cheers,

Dave

hey dave, thanks - that‘s exactly what i’ve been thinking about! crazy, that my 8ohm bogner cab (wich “makes” the amp out brighter) sounds and reacts so much different to my 8ohm ox box. best regarda, frank.

Well, it’s not so crazy when comparing what is generally regarded as a particularly good cab to what is generally regarded as an objectively bad sounding “reactive” load. :upside_down_face:
