Hi there! I bought a GPDI IR last week. It was an open-box, so not brand spanking new but, from packaging and all, it looks like it may never have been used at all. Everything seems to be in working order and of course it sounds great!
When I power it up, there is a short (maybe a quarter second) kind of a zipper noise, ascending in pitch, right when the power light stops flashing.
It happens in all situations I’ve tried, regardless of gain or master volume settings:
-speaker connected (I hear it through the speaker)
-no speaker connected (IR or Analog out, into audio interface, regardless of speaker sim or IR settings)
Yes, that’s normal. Thanks for pointing out that it’s on all outputs. There is a mute function that’s supposed to block that from the outputs, so maybe that needs to be fine tuned a bit. That said, it’s just the sound of the high voltage power supply turning on after the tubes warm up and won’t damage anything.
I assume the fine tuning you mention would mean sending the unit to you all, in which case I can totally live with the sound knowing it’s normal and harmless.
That said, if there’s an adjustment that I could perform as someone with low-mid level abilities, let me know how that would work.

“Mid-level” in relation to, say, electric guitar players.
