I just unboxed a brand new PS100 unit. The problem I am having is when the PS is engaged, the volume drop is SIGNIFICANT - and boosting the volume via the front panel control does little to nothing?
I am using an 8ohm Dr Z head into an 8ohm Dr Z 1x12 cab. Simple setup…
AMP → PS100
PS100 → cab
Is there any kind of troubleshooting I may perform, or should I assume the unit I received is defective? To better illustrate my issue - My amp works fine when bypassed. When the unit is engaged, my volume drops to a whisper level … as if it was not engaged and my amp’s master volume was on .5
In short, when engaged, the volume is so low I could never use this onstage with drums.
I have also found that with my PS100 when using modelers and/or preamps that when routing the input signal from the modeler/preamp to the LINE IN of the PS1 there is substantially more attenuation of the signal even when INPUT LEVEL is set to LO when compared to routing my signal into the RETURN of the effects loop. I’m weary of pushing some preamps (i.e., Driftwood Purple Nightmare Tube Preamp) into the effects return in fear of exceeding the +4 dB threshold, but the only way I can use my PS100 in a band setting is to push the preamp/modeler, set INPUT LEVEL to LO and crank the volume.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this power amp, but there seems to be a substantial amount of attenuation at the line level input rendering it as more of a practice power amp than a practical replacement for other power amp options. This is an issue I would very much like to see addressed as I love the tone and features of this power amp with the volumes that I do get.
I know this wasn’t a response in the form of an answer but I wanted to add to this thread for feedback to the Fryette team of things I hope they address with this amazing piece of gear.
