Valvulator Mini I/O Placement

What was the thought process of the input/output placement on the Valvulator Mini? Any chance Fryette can reverse the order to make it more pedal board friendly? Moving the 12V DC from the side to rear would also be helpful.

Welcom to the forum!

The goal was to make ithe Valvulator Mini as noise-free and as compact as possible.

This is a low level tube audio signal path with massive headroom and a specialized power supply design. Putting the DC input on the back and the ins and outs on the sides would not only make it much wider and increase potential noise and crosstalk issues, but render the XLR out useless.

As with most pedalboard layouts, one persons “thoughful and convenient” is another persons “totally usless”.

Thank you, Dave! And I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

To clarify, I’m not questioning why the I/Os are on the back. I’m only inquiring about their order. To level set, from what I can tell the Valvulator Mini I/Os (from right to left when looking at the front of the pedal): OUTPUTS, INPUT. This is the reverse order of most pedals. Most pedal I/Os (from right to left when looking at the front of the pedal): INPUTS, OUTPUTS.

Consequently, the order of the I/Os on the Valvulator Mini makes connecting it to other pedals more challenging.

Hmmm, maybe there a case for producing a mirror image version. That’d be novel

Seriously though, we sent 30 beta units out to a lot of our gigging and recording friends for feedback, and would you believe, not one of them said “dude, you got it backwards”. Not saying you’re wrong, but we did something unusual and went out looking for trouble. Not a peep!

Originally we surmised that most people would put this under the pedalboard, thus the shape and size. Then of course, we blew that up with those pesky switches.

if you rotate the unit 180 degrees the input is on the right.

Did you send all 30 to left-handed guitar players?

But seriously, thank you for updating this wonderful product. I’m really looking forward to picking one up. I’d also be happy to be a beta tester for your mirror image version!:face_with_hand_over_mouth:
