Can I use my new Power Station 2A with my Suhr Reactive Load IR? The Reactive Load IR only has an amp input (no line input like the Fryette Power Load IR). If possible, what is the best way to connect for both 1. re-amping and 2. silent output for IR to mixer/computer?
Can I connect my speaker cab to ‘spkr out 1’ on the PS-2A and take ‘spkr out 2’ of the PS-2A and connect it to the ‘amp-in’ on the Suhr Reactive Load IR, and then send the cab out of the Suhr to my speaker cab? I assume if I connect in this way, I will not be able to operate in silent mode with the PS-2A to the Suhr RL IR since I will need power for a signal to the 2nd speaker output. What would I set then ‘spkr out’ impedance to? Cab is 8 ohms, Suhr is ‘amp in’ only and would enable its internal load, but I don’t know the impedance.
Can I send the amp to the Suhr RL IR ‘amp in’ and send the Suhr ‘cab-out ‘ to the PS-2A ‘amp-in’, and then send the PS-2A cab output to my speaker cab. I assume If I connect in this manner, I will get my IR out from the Suhr without having to power the PS-2A and will get ‘silent operation and ‘re-amping’ for normal attenuated operation. My speaker cab is 8 ohms. There is no impedance selection on the Suhr ‘speaker thru’. If I set the impedance on the PS-2A to 8 ohms, will the amp see an 8 ohm load as it passes through the Suhr RL and PS-2A?
Or, I assume this might be the preferred way if it works….
3. Can I use the ‘line out’ of the PS-2A to the ‘amp-in’ to the Suhr RL IR? This would allow for silent mode use of the PS-2A and eliminate any impedance issues with using both boxes.
The Suhr Reactive Load IR is already a silent recording solution. So I think the easiest thing to do is use its “unfiltered” Line Out. Connect this to the PS-2A Line In, and then you can re-amp your guitar amplifier and also use the SRLIR for recording.
Hi Dan,
I have been searching the web and can’t find an answer….
Does the P-2A reactance load work in silent mode if the PS-2A power is off and I have a cab connected to ‘spkr 1’?
When passing my amp signal through the ‘unfiltered’ line out of the Suhr RL IR to the ‘amp in’ of the PS-2A as suggested, will my amp see the reactance load if the PS-2A is unpowered and has a cab attached to ‘spkr 1’?
I realize the simple solution is to just swap the amp out cable between the Suhr RL IR and the PS-2A, but I’m hoping to avoid cable swapping.
Thanks.
I have reviewed the manual a few times and watched all of your videos.
In every example of ‘silent mode’ , there is no cab attached to the PS-2A. Hence my question (and caution).
The manual indicates that if spkr 1 is open, the PS-2A will remain locked in Bypass/Standby. I guess my question was assuming the opposite. If spkr 1 has a cable in it, does the Bypass/Standby condition change based on the PS-2A being powered or not? Example, leaving power amp on and turning PS-2A off. Is the amp still see a load?
Sorry, Major brain fart on my part! When you referenced, “unfiltered - out”, I was still thinking “speaker-thru” (which bypasses the load). Now I get it. “Unfiltered-out” to ‘line-in’ of the PS-2A. Your original original response answered my question.
Sorry for being a pest. I really do appreciate your help.

Hehe all good. It’s OK to be worried about this stuff.
You’re right, PS-2A has open-load protection, which means that it will put itself into bypass (turn off its own high voltage; only heater voltage is applied to the tubes) if nothing is connected to SPKR OUT. In Silent mode the unit is off. In this case it is OK to have nothing connected to SPKR OUT because there’s no power to dissipate in a load. It is also OK to connect a speaker if you wish. It changes nothing in this case. If you feel happier with that do it.
