What’s the best path for using the power amp mute function on the UL? Just picked up the head the other day and trying to get my bearings. It is a vht model with graphic eq fwiw.
I was getting a very low signal using the line out with the mute activated. Is that related to the line out being post power amp?
Would using the effects send provide better results?
Thanks!
if I remember using the line out function on my 50/CL (which I assume has the same line out function as the old UL), yes, it is post-power amp, which means that the master volume affects the line out level and that if the power amp is muted (unpowered) then the line out shouldn’t have any output. presumably the reason the line out is post-power amp is to capture all the coloration and dynamic of the power amp. I admit it’s been a long time since I used the line out so I might be misremembering. an easy way to test would be to plug the amp in to a cab, deactivate the power amp mute, and test the line out with the mv turned up somewhat.
the effects send would be the canonical way of capturing the preamp only output, you are right.
can I ask why you want the pre-amp only output? are you slaving into another power amp or are you trying to record using a cab sim? If the former, using the effects send would be the right call. if the latter, you’d probably be better served by running the UL speaker output into a load box, as opposed to using the power amp mute, so your recorded signal would include the power amp coloration.

Thanks for the response.
That makes sense . I kept it connected to a cab and could hear a very low signal passing through to the cab and my daw.
I do own a ps-100 as well. Just wanted to see what I could pull off with the amp first and possibly using less equipment.
It will be nice to use the line out with a cab sim in a live setting!
