Any concerns with using 6L6WGC tubes with the LXII?
Any performance or tonal changes when compared to the 6L6GC-STR?

Hi Ventanaman,
Would you be able to share links to the exact tubes you want to compare?
Short answer: Any 6L6 that is the same (or smaller) physical size is fine.
Long answer:
Tubes are clearly at the heart of the LXII. Tube resellers buy tubes from the same 3 factories—the only 3 factories—on the planet and do some “value-add” measurements and matching. That’s a useful service. But what annoys me is all the marketing around different subversions. They are creating variations and options, which are really an illusion of choice to sell you a product and make it exciting. The truth is you will never be able to tell the difference between subversions of tubes, not in any practical sense. By the time you swap out the tubes, any tangible difference will have gone from your memory. You could, of course, record both tubes and AB them after the fact. But to make that fair, you have to re-bias the amplifier. It’s an endless game. Sorry for the rant
Thank you!
I have a spare matched quad of lightly used TAD Redbase 6L6WGC (short bottle) and was wondering if they could work in case of an emergency tube issue on the LXII, and wasn’t sure if anyone had experience with this type of tube in the LXII.
You could ask TAD what factory they are from and what mechanical differences there are in terms of electrode and physical materials and structure between the various types. Don’t let them fob you off with how they sound.
