Use Pittbull preamp only

I run stereo effects. I want to use my pittbull preamp but not the power amp. Rather a separate stereo tube power amp. Can I run my pittbull with the power tubes removed and no speaker connected? Simply connect the effects loop out to my stereo effects and no return into the amp.

Hi jgb-vht and welcome to the community!

I have never given this much thought before, but when I am debugging a tube circuit, this is what I do sometimes. For example, I had an oscillating power stage once and ran it with the power tube out for an hour or so.

On the face of it, it seems safe to do so. However, power supply is unregulated so if you change the load (demand less current/power draw) then all the voltage in the preamp will go up.

It might be worth getting the final word from Dave, but I reckon it will be OK. Tubes are pretty resilient to these types of changes.

Right? It makes electrical sense. Without knowing what the voltages should be, there is no way for me to double check. Any chance I could get a schematic of my model? I am a tech although I don’t work at a repair shop. I am currently a design engineer at an AV integrator but I met Stevie when I worked at EMG Pickups as Rob’s right hand man back in the 90’s. That’s when I bought the amp directly from Stevie.
