Trying to use a Line 6 HXFX with PS-2A and it's not going well

Got everything hooked up correctly and it was making some strange noises, definitely different that the squealing I had experienced before while not using the loop. Lifting the ground from the send of the HXFX that feeds the input of the amp eliminated the noises but my guitar sounds weird. The decay is kind of broken up like fuzztone.

Any ideas to get the 4 cable method working correctly?

Hello @Stike and welcome to the community

Let’s get you back on track. First I need to know way more details about the current setup, this sounds like a ground loop issue.

  1. This sounds stupid, but remove the HXFX completely.
  2. Check you amp sounds good.
  3. Plug the HXFX power into the same outlet as your amp, if possible use an extension cable and plug everything into that and plug that into one wall socket.
  4. Connect the HXFX into the PS-2A FX loop (two cables, we will get to four next) any weird tone issues? If so, you need to break the loop here with an isolator.
  5. Now connect the remain cables for the 4CM. Any weird issues here? If so this is where you need to break the loop with an isolator.

Personally I’m a fan of the Lehle isolator products.

Hi. I was actually able to get it sorted out. I have a Lehle P Split but it’s the mono version. I used that to lift the ground from the send of the HXFX that fed to amp’s input which got rid of the crazy squelching sounds but still didn’t sound “right”. I picked up a stereo Radial Stage Bug and lifted the the grounds on the return and output of the HXFX and that cleared everything up.

Great! :+1:t2: Glad to hear that

One recommendation from another HXFX user.
Play a close look to the output levels.

  1. check that the send of the loop you are using to send to the input of the amp is set in instrument.
  2. if you use the fx send of the PS2 in line mode check that the return on the HXFX is on line (and the other way around)
