Tone King Imperial Preamp with the PS-2A

Can someone please tell me the best way to plug in the Imperial Preamp into the PS-2A? I would like to just use the Tone King as a preamp for the Fryette. I also want to use the FX loop on the Tone King for time-based FX. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum! You would simply use one of the Tone King’s balanced outputs to feed the Line In on the PS-2A. This would be a typical preamp to PS-2A power amp type of connection. You can then use the Imperial preamp’s effects loop for your time-based effects. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. Cheers! Gil

Isn’t the Line In on the PS2-A unbalanced? Which type of mic cable ( XLR to 1/4") should I use, balanced or unbalanced?

Yes, but that will not create any issues. A standard XLR female to 1/4” TS male cable to make this connection will work just as intended. It just so happens that the Tone King Imperial preamp only has XLR outputs whereas most guitar preamps have 1/4” or both types of output jacks.

Hello there. I ordered a Royalist Preamp pedal the other day and planning on doing exactly what you’re talking about. Any issues and are you happy with this setup? I know it was almost a year ago but maybe I’ll catch you still  Thanks.

Works great no problems

Awesome thank you! Getting my Royalist today. Stoked. Appreciated.

Anyone know if I can use XLR to TRS vs XLR to TS? Does it matter in this instance? I want to buy a nice cable since this is how I’m going to be running for the time being but I don’t see many XLR to TS cables as someone in the thread mentioned. Thanks.

EDIT: Also WOW does it sound great. Impressed.

This is what i use. Not sure about a TRS cable. Since a TS works i would imagine the R would just not be used in unit.

Awesome. Thanks so much for sharing! Appreciated.
