"Silent mode" with "SPKR Output" connected?

I would like to use the PS-2 in “silent mode” via the “Line Out Balanced” output while having the “SPKR Out” output connected to a speaker (with the power set to off).
The reason is that the connector is on the back, and it’s very inconvenient for me to unplug the speaker cable from the PS-2.
Alternatively, is it safe to have a cable connected to the “SPKR Out” output without a speaker?

Hello, Welcome to the Fryette Forum! Yes, you can run the PS-2A this way. No signal should be passed through to the speaker cab when the PS-2A is powered off but you may need to unplug the speaker cable from the speaker cabinet, which is ok to do, so the PS-2A does not send any signal out to the speaker if you do have the PS-2A powered on, see excerpts from user manual below. Cheers! Gil

IMPORTANT: The SPEAKER 1 jack has an open load protection feature. If no cable is connected
to this jack the Power Station will remain locked in BYPASS/STANDBY mode regardless of the
front panel Standby switch setting. This is done to prevent potential damage to your valuable
vintage amp should the speaker cable become disconnected while in Bypass mode.

Silent Mode allows you to use the Power Station as a silent adjustable reactive load for quiet direct recording or when sending a live amp signal to front of house with no speaker cab connected. In this mode it is not necessary to power up the Power Station. You don’t even need to plug in the power cord. The Voicing switches, Low Pass Filter switch, FX Send (along with the FX Level switch), and the Balanced and Unbalanced Line Outputs all operate with no AC power applied.

Hello Gil!,
sorry for my clumsiness, but it is not 100% clear to me if I can use it like this:

[ PS-2 ](SPKR out)<–(connected jack)–X (not connected) X---->speaker

I mean, could I, for example, connect a jack into the “SPKR Out” without cable safety to use in silent mode?
Thanks a lot for the extra information!

If I did not make it quite clear, the speaker out can either have no cable connected; “Silent Mode”, or a speaker cable and speaker cab connected; “normal operating mode”. If you connect a speaker cable to the speaker out jack without a speaker cab connected to it, this will damage the Power Station’s internal amplifier! I understand that disconnecting the speaker jack from the rear of the Power Station is inconvenient, but there is no work around for this. Gil
