Hi there! Have an Aether that has significant feedback when the reverb is turned up past 3 (even when guitar volume is not on). Guessing this is likely a microphonic tube? Any suggestions for a fix?
@kosine, welcome to the forum!
In the Aether, V3 is a 12AX7 and it needs to be a very low-noise and low-microphonic tube. I would suspect this one first. Do you have a spare 12AX7 you can swap in?
Second, investigate the 12AT7 in the V4 position, as this tube is the reverb driver. If you have a spare 12AT7 to try, also try it.
But only change one tube at a time, so you know which one is the problem. And of course safety. Please wait for everything to reach room temperature before swapping tubes and don’t touch anything other than the tubes when inside.
The Aether amp has a lot of reverb gain, so you’re probably getting feedback between the speaker and reverb pan.
If you have it up high enough to do that, it’s probably way more reverb than you’ll ever need.
