Hello, I had purchased a PS-100 new from guitar center in December. I had an issue where there was an abrupt high pitched sound followed by a drastic drop in volume and then no sound. You guys sent me replacement tubes and a replacement fuse and the unit was working again but while playing tonight, I again had the high pitched squeal followed by a big drop in volume. I then turned the unit off before the sound dropped out completely but it is the exact same problem as the first time. Is it possible a second set of tubes was bad? Could it be another internal component? Could it be related to my setup? I love the unit so I’m disappointed this happened again. Please let me know what you think I should do. Thanks.
Hi James, Very sorry to hear that your PS-100 is having this issue again. I understand and empathize with your frustration. It is highly unlikely for this to be the same issue as before but anything is possible when it comes to electronics. Please provide us with the following information;
Detailed description of your setup and the settings you’ve been using on both your amp and the PS-100
Remove the top panel and send a clear picture of the inside of the chassis from about 12" above the unit
Once we receive this info from you we’ll decide what the proper course of action will be to get your PS-100 back up and running. Thanks! Gil
Hi Gil, I run several amp heads through a Delisle amp switcher with an attenuator loop. The PS-100 is in that attenuator loop. My loop effects are in the loop of the PS-100. My preamp pedals, plugins and modelers run through a Delisle preamp switcher into the Cyclops
. The cyclops is connected as it should be. My Pas-100 is running on the “Hi” level at Brite and Warm. The PS-100 volume is usually at around 11 o’clock. My amps’ master volumes are usually also around 11 o’clock. The problem has occurred once when I was using the quad cortex through the cyclops and using the PS-100 as an attenuator. That first time there was a high pitched whistle/squeal with a significant drop in volume followed by complete loss of output. You guys sent me replacement fuses and tubes. I replaced everything. The second time I was using a Mesa TC-100 and once I experienced the big volume drop and squeal, I shut everything down. I powered everything up again today for a few minutes and it was working as it should but I’m sure the issue will happen again.
James, I’d like you to try running the PS-100 with just your amp and cab connected in the standard configuration. This is a process of elimination type of trouble shooting procedure. It will tell us if the Power Station is functioning normally on its own. Please let me know what you discover and we’ll go from there. Thanks! Gil
Hey Gil, I will rearrange the set up like that and see what happens. I played for a bit last night with my normal setup and there were no problems. I will play it in a normal configuration for a while and see what happens. Thanks.
Hi Gil, since it is a little unpredictable, I’m concerned I will just have this problem again in the near future. I don’t play a ton. I’ve been following the forum daily and it seems there are many PS-100s experiencing the identical problem I am having. I feel like this makes my setup the less likely culprit. Is there any chance that the replacement tubes I was sent came from the same problematic batch? I’d so much rather nip this in the bud so I can keep my full set up connected again without worry. If there is a chance the replacement tubes I was sent came from the same problematic batch, please send me out another set. I really don’t want to trouble shoot this for weeks and weeks and only have one amp connected to the PS-100. If you can’t send me replacement tubes just let me know which tubes and what specs I should purchase for replacement. Thanks.
Best,
James
