Rackmount questions: Rear support & vertical usage

I am new here, and I did not find answers to my questions using the forum search:

  1. Is it required or recommended to have some rear support for the PS-100 when rack-mounting the unit with the rackmount kit?

  2. Are there any concerns using the PS-100 vertically, i.e. when I put the rack into a vertical / upright position due to reasons of space regularly? Could it maybe overheat internals when the tubes are in that position? Does it matter which side I put up-/downwards?

Background info:

I am using a SKB Roto Shallow 4U Rack with my PS-100, where the only other unit at the very top above the PS-100 is a 1U Furman power supply. I left the feet mounted on the PS-100, which means it cannot sit at the very bottom of the rack, since the rack rail has fixed mounting positions instead of a variable bar with movable nuts. So it has approximately 1/3U below and 2/3U above to ventilate when using the rack horizontally. No rear support currently.

Thanks in advance!

Alex

Hello, Alexsey, and welcome to the forum!

1/ No rear support needed; the Power Station mounting kit is all you need. What would be your plan to add rear support?

2/ In the horizontal position heat will rise above the tubes and immediately exit the box. If mounted vertically, then that heat will rise inside the box, and the operating temperature will increase. So I could not recommend this. Don’t forget it’s a load box making up to 120W of heat and 100W power amp making more than 100W of heat in a small-ish box.
