PS2A as a power amp question

Hello this is my first post, and my apologies if this is a ridiculous question. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of info out there as far as using the PS2A as a power amp. basically I want to plug a tube preamp into the PS2A and plug the PS2A into an 8-ohm 90 watt 1x12. (Why I would want that, and not just a regular amp head into the cab…is a question for another day).

So my question is, if I plug the preamp into the line in of the PS2A, is it still attenuating the volume coming out of the speaker? or have I simply created a “50-watt head?”

and would it behave the same if I plugged the preamp into the effects return instead of the line in?

and if the result is the same either way, which one is better to plug into (line in or effects return)?

I have not purchased one yet, hence the questions. Thank you!

Hi @mavuser welcome to the community :tada:

Yes, this works well and is described in the user manuals

is it still attenuating

It has nothing to attenuate. It is just behaving as a 50W valve amplifier, yes more like a head.

line out

Line out is before the FX loops so you can add pedals.

Thank you Dan, for the prompt and informative reply. Not necassarily a deal breaker. And I actually saw a Youtube video yesterday, that suggests I could easily do what I was asking (more like what I was thinking)…if I simply purchase *two PS2A’s…then we would have something to attenuate! hmm still plotting thank you again many cheers
