Hi folks. I went through problems with the Tonex and landed on the Nano Cortex. According to the way I’m reading everything, the XLR Line Out is a balance out from the amplifier in. Chain is:
Guitar ------> Bad Cat Cub Head ------> Bad Cat 8ohm Speaker Out ------> PS2 Amp In
then
PS2 XLR Line Out ------> Nano Cortex Capture Input
This is a far as i get. As soon as I connect the XLR line out to the nano i get tons of noise. Does anyone have a graphic or something solid that outlines the exact connections to make to capture an amp head using Nano Cortex, Fryette PS2 and a guitar amp head? Would be GREATLY appreciated.
The problem you are experiencing is probably the same as what happens when you run a 4CM rig. It creates a ground loop between the amplifiers input and the Power Station’s ground circuit. This usually causes a hight pitch squeal, which I assume is what you’re describing as noise.
You’re probably going to need an isolation between the Nano and amplifier input similar to the one shown in the diagram.
You should also try pressing the ground lift switch on the back of the Power Station.
Here’s a video that explains the ground loop issue and resolution.
Another thing you could try, since you’re just using the Power Station as a load, is turning off the Power Station, disconnecting the speaker out (if connected) and unplugging the AC power cord on the Power Station. That will eliminate a potential ground loop.
Thanks so much for your reply. I’m embarrassed to say all it took was pressing the ground lift switch on the Nano and boom, all the noise was gone
Not sure if I could extend your interest further with another question but I’ll try. After capture, to send that capture to the PS2 and then my amp cab, all i would do is go out of my Nano, into the Line In on the PS2, then that will go out of the Speaker connection to my amp cab which allows me to use my capture with a real speaker via the PS2. Is that correct?
The purpose of a capture is to be able to record what is basically a model of your rig direct to DAW.
You certainly can play that back into the PS-2 Line in and out to the speaker in your amp (or a separate cab), but you you will be compounding modeled speaker behavior upon actual speaker behavior. In my experience, that can be a bit overkill.
Right i know. I have this thing where I want to see if I can start using amp models in place of my amp heads. I’d like to be able to use the Nano into a standard cab with a regular speaker if possible and get close to the real thing…if possible. Thanks for your replies!
