I have an amp head which has only a 16 ohm speaker output. My cab is 8 ohm, can i use the ps2 to go from 16 ohm to 8 ohm while on bypass mode, or does the ps2 have to be on operate mode at all times? Thanks in advance
Hi Bas and welcome!
Yes, your hunch is correct, in Bypass “AMP IN” is connected directly to “SPKR OUT” so there would be a mismatch. But to be honest 16 to 8 is really not that bad, and some people run this way because it changes the sound a bit and they like it.
So if you want an impedance match setup:
- AMP IN impedance selector is on 16
- SPKR OUT impedance is on 8.
- PS-2A on standby, wait 30s—60s
- PS-2A on operate
- You amp on Standby, wait 30s—60s
- You amp in rock and roll mode.
Just make sure never to bypass the PS-2A and turn your amp off first, before the Power Station. That way it will only ever see the reactive load that is matched to its impedance.
thank you very much for the help! Actually, its the other way around 16 ohm amp to 8 ohm cab, but i get the point. I will have the ps2 on just to be safe
Oops, I read “16 Ohm speaker” on the first then it wrapped to add “output”! Let me update that!
