PS100 Loss of Volume and Glowing Tube

Hi, i was using my PS100 as a power amp for a synergy SYN-2 at home levels (not the girst time). The volume thinned and dropped then came back before immediately dropping again. I walked over to the unit and the left tube was bright red so i immediately shut the machine off. The unit smelled hot, but i don’t smell any “burnt” smell after cooling or see any obvious damage.

I purchased the unit 11/24/24 from Musician’s Friend. Serial PHGD243813

Yeah, I had a tube red plate on me while using a Dual Rectifier some years back. Do you have a spare set to throw in there and see if that solves your problem?

I dont have another set of tubes at the moment. My unit seems to be in the timeframe of the one with the tube issues and im hoping thats all it is though. I would like to just confirm with Fryette before dojng anything on my own.

Hi @Baronvonbaron ,

Given the production date, yes, your unit is one that could have the tube issue.

  • Tell them the tube label is matched and tested to IP 40

They should send you out a new set of tubes and fuses.

When they arrive follow these instructions.

Thank you for the reaponse @dan. I’ll email per your instructions.

I have the same problem on the second device I got. Same symptoms then the fuse blew. Sent it back to Thomann and got a new one. After an hour again, the humming (which is pretty loud anyway) got louder, sound went quieter and tubes glowed red. Then fuse blew again. I changed the fuse and the tubes. Now it has been working for a while but hums pretty loud. I don’t dare to take it on stage because it seems unreliable.
Anything I can do?
Greetings
