Hello, I’m having a very similar issue to everyone here with my fryette power station I purchased. I make sure to follow the manual correctly, but within 10 minutes it I started to smell smoke and heard squealing and one tube was glowing red hot, the other didn’t look like it was even on. I immediately shut off both the power station and my amp. Is this where I make a service request?
I’m definitely concerned about it, is this where I make a service request?
Can you give a few details about the Power Station? When did you buy it, from where and what is the serial number? It would also be useful to see the inside. If you could take a photo of the inside so it fills the frame, that should let us see enough details.
I ordered/purchased the Fryette PS-100 through Guitar Center on 12/29/24. The Serial # is PHGD243881. Here are the pictures you requested: Fryette Power Station Pictures - Google Drive
Thank you Dan. I will get on that but have a few questions below.
To be honest, I have only used it three times ever, each use was only 10 - 15 minutes.
As you know, the PS-100 is very expensive so just trying to figure out what went wrong/why it would fail considering the very limited use it’s had in the past nine months.
Can you please clarify what happened with my PS-100?
Are you sure the issue is only with the tubes and nothing else?
Is there a way I can check if anything else is damaged?
Sorry, I should have given a bit more context! In this case, it’s definitely the tubes. About one year ago there was an issue with the tube supplier’s test procedure, and they sent us tubes that seemed to fail early. We also do a burn-in test in the factory, but the tubes were good enough to mostly pass this test. So that’s the background. The date and symptoms of your PS-100 are entirely consistent with this being the issue. Regarding checking for any other potential damage, the rest of the circuit is protected by internal fuses which will be included once you request the parts.
The phase invertor shouldn’t have an issue at all. That unit did not come from the same distributor and has never been a part of this issue. We will be sending you a Matched Pair of 6550’s and the two fuses (main and internal). We are processing this currently and you should see an acknowledgement in your email soon.
