PS-2A starting point settings for a Marshall stack of half stack?

My PS-2A is arriving next week and I thought that I should as here about suggested starting point settings to tame a four hole Marshall stack or half stack.

I bought mainly to be tame the volume on my '72 Super Bass and it’s matching '71/72 full stack, but since my Super Bass needs service I will initially use it with my Marshall Studio Vintage 20H, which is basically a scaled down 20w Super Lead, but still too loud for our rehearsals and recording sessions.

Any suggestions on which settings I should use when I first hook it up to try it. I understand that I need to set the impedance switched to match my amp and cabs, but what about the Brite switch, the Warm switch, Presence and Depth? Any suggestions?

I understand that I need to adjust them all to taste and to suit my equipment and room, but it always helps to have a starting point and go from there. I have read the manual, but I didn’t find any suggestions there.

Switches - Brite and Warm.
Presence and Depth - 9 - 10 o’clock.

Basically for me the lower the dB’s in the room the higher I turn up the Depth. Usually below noon. Presence might need a slight adjustment.

If you want a bigger more modern voice set the switches to Edge and Deep.

My advice would be the same with most amps.

There is a lot of variables. So just trust your ears.

Thanks Stephen! I will try that.

Stephen: Your starting point settings worked pretty well for me and I dialed in a combination of settings where “Bypass” and “Operate” sounded very similar and then I could just turn down the volume to a level better suited for the rehearsal room.

BTW I ended up at the following settings:

Switches: Flat + Warm
Presence: 9 o’clock
Depth: 9 o’clock.

My initial impressions are that the PS-2A is pretty impressive when used with a Marshall full stack. Now I am really looking forward to have my old Super Bass head serviced and up and running again, to hear how it can sound at more sensible volume levels.

Im guessing by your settings your not turning the volume way down.
If the volune in the room is a lot lower I use more extreme settings to make up for how the speaker reacts. I usually use similar settings with most amps.

I turned it down to “sensible-rock-band-rehearsal-level”. Which is basically what I need and which is about the same level as is accepted at the kind of stages I am playing on.

I played around with even lower volume levels as well and I agree that you always need to fine tune it at the volume level you are ending up at.

Settings for my Marshall 2203 and 2210 into a Greenback loaded with G12M-25 (round & classic sound) and G12H-30 Anniversary (thinner & shriller) speakers.

I recommend you read the manual already (download online). In my experience, the lower your volumes get (i.e. the more you attenuate), the more I need to dial the presence and depth in. In addition the PS2 makes my amps sound better at any volume. .
