The PS-2A no longer controls my Marshall 1987X below 94 decibels. Before, I could play it at room volume without any problems. What could be the problem? The PS-2A is really much too loud.
Hello Tobi and welcome to the community!
Are you using your PS-2A mic-ed in a room? Are these decibel sound pressure levels? I don’t have a good feel for absolute volume level in terms of dB so you will have to help me out.
There are a few things to check:
- Have you accidentally pressed the front panel level control? You can get a volume cut by toggling that.
- The Depth and Presence controls give a subtle change in volume
- So do the reactive load toggle switch.
- Could the volume knob moved – try adjusting that (I’m sure you must have done this already!)
That pretty much covers the options on the PS-2A.
It could also be that your amp is sending more power. Might it need a re-bias?
There are some ideas to try. Let me know how you get on.
Hi Dan, thank you very much for your help. I measured the volume of the amplifier (in conjunction with the PS-2A) with a volume meter. In Germany, the volume is measured in Decibel. The 94 decibels I mentioned are far too loud to be in the same room with the amplifier and the PS-2A at the same time.
On your questions:
-
Have you accidentally pressed the front panel level control? You can get a volume cut by toggling that.
Answer: The front level panel control is pressed. It is on mode ‘Hi’. -
The Depth and Presence controls give a subtle change in volume.
Answer: The Depth and Presence controls are completely down (turned to the left). -
So do the active load toggle switch.
Answer: Which toggle switch do you mean by this? The switches for Edge and Deep? If so, these two switches are on Brite and Warm (in the middle). -
Could the volume knob moved – try adjusting that (I’m sure you must have done this already!)
Answer: Of course I did. -
It could also be that your amp is sending more power. Might it need a re-bias?
Answer: I tested my Deluxe Reverb and my 1987X. That would be a big coincidence if both of them were to send more power.
What else could the problem be? As I said, my amplifiers (in conjunction with the PS-2A) are much louder than they were before.
