PS-2A and Speaker Wattage

Hello everyone… I purchased PS-2A yesterday, delivery set for tomorrow. I have been scouring the internet looking for an answer to this question but have found nothing specific for the PS-2A. Does speaker wattage matter? With most of my amps and cabs this is not an issue, but I do have a couple of combos that have lower wattage speakers, a Marshall 1974x with a stock 20 watt speaker (Celestion G12-M20), I will be attenuating this one. I also have a Fender Champ Custom '57, stock speaker which I do believe is 25 watts, was hoping to boost this one.

Hello @samcrvs and welcome to the forum!

Yes, you are right. We can normally ignore the speaker Wattage, but not in the case when the Wattage of the speaker is less than 50W when using the PS-2A (or 100W when using the PS-100).

You do need to be careful to not drive the speaker too hard. To understand this settings you need to AB the combo at full volume with the PS-2A.

  1. Start with PS-2A in BYPASS (you will hear the combo at full volume)
  2. Put PS-2A volume very low
  3. PS-2A in OPERATE
  4. Listen to volume
  5. PS-2A in BYPASS
  6. Keep on doing 3, 4, 5 until you have matched the volume.

THIS IS YOUR MAXIMUM SAFE VOLUME DON’T GO ABOVE IT

Thanks Dan, great help!
