PS 2A activate not working

I purchased a PS 2A three years ago and after plugging it in ( correctly) to one of my amps, and clicking the activate switch, I got nothing. No effect. Contacted Support and got no help except maybe it wasn’t connected correctly. The amp and speaker work fine through the PS but not when activated. Checked tubes ( this was a new device) and they light up but haven’t been tested. I would really like to use this but the warranty date is coming up and it needs to be addressed ASAP

Hi Mudkat and welcome to the community!

You are in the right place for support. We are moving support to the forum rather than through email.

Please go through the NO SOUND checklist: Power Station: Troubleshooting Guide.

This will cover some obvious things and some more non-obvious ones. Just skip the things you have already done.

Before you start, make sure your setup is simple: guitar, amp, PS-2A, speaker. No FX or other connections.

Let’s take it from there, please let me know what you find.

thanks Dan,

Here’s what I’ve found. I did have the PS hooked up right and after connecting it with a 65amps London, it worked as it should when I switched to activate, and when I switched activate off, the guitar came through fine but switching to activate again, no sound!. I toggled the switch a number of times and it came back on, so I’m guessing either an intermittent switch or the contacts in it were corroded from the get go as this is what it did back when I first got the PS, although then I didn’t try to toggle the switch

So not sure what to do here, I could try a little de-oxit on the switch, but I hate to either send it back or take it to a tech, I’d rather do the later.

Please advise

thanks

Mudkat ( James)

Hey James,

Let me ask Gil for some advice. I would not bother with de-oxit, although it might work better for switches than pots. Can you swap out the tubes for known good ones? If you rule that out, then it is likely a hardware issue.

@Gil do you think this intermittent sound issue could be switch-related? The tubes are also 3 years old. Interested to know what you think.

Hi James, Let’s try this; please remove the top panel and send us a picture of the inside of the chassis taken from about 12" above the unit. It’s possible that one or more of the tubes may not be seated all the way into their sockets. The physical vibration of flicking the switch could also cause an intermittent connection to sometimes work and sometimes not. But it would not be recommended to just randomly spray cleaner into the switches unless it’s the only other thing to try. I’d like to see that pic of the chassis first just to rule out any other obvious possibilities. And it would be a good idea to observe the power tubes as you work the Operate switch on and off to see if any arcing is occurring in or around the power tubes. Please let me know what you discover and we’ll go from there. See attached video for details re removal of the top panel. Thanks! Gil

Dan had commented that the tubes were 3 years old, but the PS was never used in that time.

Gil.

I hooked every thing up with tubes visible and no noticeable change when switching it. The intermittence continues though. Sounds great when it works :slightly_smiling_face:

So Gil is there anything to be done with this situation

Please send me an email to support@fryette.com and include your current shipping address and phone number, serial number, date and place of purchase of your PS-2A. If you are located in the US, we will send you an RMA. Thanks! Gil
