The line output(s) of my PS-2 are extremely loud and noisy, at minimum input on my audio interface (UA 876) it overloads the preamp and has a way too much floor noise.
I tried using a DI box with -30dB pad between the PS-2 and UA 876 (Palmer Wipper), which helps with the input volume, too much actually, but the floor noise is still way too much.
This seems recent, I used the PS-2 for silent recording before (I usually use an OX, which works perfectly with my amps), is there a possibility of some components having been damaged?
I’ve had that PS-2 for quite a few years, it sees daily usage.
Typically the line-level output is around 2V RMS at most.
Recheck your connections; make sure that everything is connected correctly.
What line output are you using: XLR (balanced) or Jack (unbalanced)?
Reading the user manual of the interface, it seems to be “helpful” and sets gain automatically depending on how you connect to the front panel XLR sockets.
A microphone is typically connected with an XLR connector, and an instrument or line level signal is typically connected with a ¼” (6.35 mm) TS (tip-sleeve) or TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) plug.
Preamp gain range and input impedance automatically adjusts for mic, line, and instrument signals, based on whether the plug is XLR or ¼”, along with the state of the INST button.
What I think is happening is that your interface is applying too much gain, it thinks it is working with a mic-level signal.
Hi Dan, I am connecting to my interface through the line level inputs (3 through 8).
Again it worked perfectly before.
Both line out (XLR and TS) exhibit that high level & background noise/hiss.
