PS-2 odd behavior

Hey Guys. Been running a WDW rig for a long time with the PS2. Main amp is dry but uses the attenuator, Slo-100 is somewhat loud  each side has a 2x12 for effect. Out of the PS-2’s LINE out, i have a cable going to my pedalboard first pedal IN, then last one in stereo goes to a ROCKTON Velocity 300 for the output going to the 2 side cabs. Now, this morning was reheasing when suddenly it all went silent except my main amp, which the volume suddenly dropped.

Amp is fine on its own, Rocktron as well. The PS-2 does’nt seem to have anything coming out of LINE out and the attenuator seems to just lower my amp’s volume even with the attenuator active or not. I changed but power tube and 12ax7 and same thing.

So…HELP ObiWan, you’re my only hope
thanks

@al3d welcome to the community :tada:

First, unplug everything from the PS2, no effect loop, etc. You just want your guitar, your amp the PS2 and a the speaker.

Does the PS2 sound good in both bypass and operate mode?

Try putting the toggles into flat; does that make any difference?

Now test the lineout; how is the signal level? Make sure the level switches are selected correctly too (the little push buttons on the front and back panel).

Let us know what happens.

Dan

did all those test and noticed a few other things. When i click the Ground Lift button, major sound level drop. When using the PS-2 like i have been for a while, i can barely get a signal from the line out and need to raise the VOLUME of the atternatuator to crank the amp even if the amp’s volume is cranked to 8. I was told its a know issue but not more then that.

Hi

Did changing the toggles to flat make any difference?

The line out is passive. So this means one of four things:

  1. The signal going in from your amp is tiny
  2. The level switches for amp input or line level output or line out volume are set incorrectly
  3. You have a low impedance connected to the line out
  4. Something is broken in the PS between your amp’s input and the line out — this will need a service to fix.

So I need some more detail from you.

  1. Use bypass mode to confirm you have loud signal from your amp to speaker
  2. Confirm your signal is loud when in operate mode by matching the volume to bypass mode with the power station.
  3. Please confirm and tell me how you level switches are set and how the line out volume control is set, post photos
  4. Can you tell me exactly what the line out is connected to: the device and the label on the jack socket and if you really want to put a smile on my face: find the page in the user manual that describes that input and post it here.

With this information we might be able to fix it or arrange a service.

Dan

hello again Dan, sorry for such a delay. SO when i use the PS-2 straight with the amp, meaning cab out to PS-2 and PS-2 to the cab, it works fine. Just like it should. The line out usually would go into my pedalboard to my first pedal to then at the end of my board in stereo to a stereo power amp and then 2 cabs. NOw the line out does not send any signal anymore it seems. and when its in use, the attenuation of the PS-2 is vert sketchy for some reason

Do you get any signal into pedals if you use the FX send and return (I know that is not your use case, but asking for debugging purposes)?

Are you stating that in Operate the volume of the PS into the speakers is not as you would expect, but it works in Bypass?

This would indicate some issue with the power stage, but the line out issue is weird because that is a different circuit. It could be there are a few things going on here.

Let me know about the FX loop. If that is also not working it could be something like a bad voltage regulator.
