MY PS-2, when playing amp distorted and straight in, has an odd sizzling/fizzy sound in the background while playing. It is hard to describe exactly what it is. I have tried it with multiple amps and cabs and nothing gets rid of that sizzle/fizz.
I am not sure if there is some kind of defect or if the tubes are bad? It has been like this essentially since I got it, but am just now getting around to attempting to solve this issue.
Sure thing. My signal path is almost always guitar > tuner > amp. The fizz is there with all my amps and cabs. Amps are Marshall 1959, Fender Bandmaster, Supro Black Magic, Reeves Hiwatt clone. It also is there regardless of what cab the heads are paired with. Speakers are various celestions and jensens, include vintage celestions.
No matter how I set the PS2, I cannot get rid of that fizziness. The picture is just what I tried most recently.
The volume is quite low, are you hearing the output transformer fizz? This physically vibrates which can be heard in the room (not through the speaker).
A recording of the fizz would be useful. And a recording without the fizz too.
It is definitely coming through the speaker rather than originating around the head. I will try to capture it on a recording as well as the amp unattenuated.
The unattenuated record will probably need to be done next weekend when I have a chance to turn up again.
