Ps-100 Weak and distorted signal when engaged. No issues when in bypass

Seems that based off of other posts this may be a tube issue??? Using this as attenuator for 50W Marshall into 2x12 cab. 8ohms -checked all setting, cables, connections. When unit is in bypass state, everything is loud and clear. When unit is engaged the signal becomes weak and distorted. I bought the unit new several years ago and it has low hours < 50 hrs I’d say over the last 4 years. I took a video that shows how things sound when engaged / bypassed if that helps. What is best next step? Thanks.

Hi @Jumpingoff and welcome to the forum!

It could be, but first I would try removing anything in the FX loop and see if that makes any difference. You want to test this with Guitar → Amp → PS-100 → Cab.

If you happen to have a spare 12DW7 I would swap that in first to see if it’s that tube.

If problems persist, yes, I would order a matched pair of 6550s

Thanks for the quick reply, Dan. No effects loop in use at this time. Just guiter > amp > ps-100 > cab. I will try the tube swap.

Oh, it sounds very much like a kind of modulation effect. I wonder if the power amp is oscillating or if you have a ground loop. With such a simple setup ground loop is virtually impossible.

Sorry, to clarify I was running through my board which had some chorus on it. You can hear the volume drop and added distortion when I turn the ps100 on.

Right, that is what I figured. Yes, I could hear the volume drop and the increased distortion. OK back on track :bullet_train:
