PS 100 power tubes

I know there are numerous posts on this subject. I’ve read lots of them. I still want to confirm my thoughts to avoid damage due to my own negligence. I have a set of tung sol 6550’s matched at 57 milliamps . The current power tubes are rated at 40. Can I put the tungsols in, power up and go or should I order a set of 40’s?

What the milliamps rating means is that under test conditions (a certain voltage on the anode, screen and cathode), x mA was flowing through the tube.

I don’t think putting them in will cause damage to the PS-100, I think they will run a bit hotter than the 40mA they are replacing. Worst case, they might red plate, but you can catch that pretty quickly.

It’s always better to replace with the actual mA rating because that’s how it is designed to be used. But tubes are expensive and I don’t want you to not use perfectly good tubes because of a number.

Thanks for the reply. That’s kind of what I was thinking
