PS-100 Live Application/Speaker Cab/Silent Mode

Greetings,

When using the PS-100 without a cab (silent mode), then sending to the Front Of House/Mixer (Manual p.9), what kind of tone are you getting without a cab or a cab sim?

Will the tone change if you had a cab connected to the PS-100 and sent to the FOH/Mixer? It was my understanding that there’s a vital relationship between head/cab and guitar tone.

With recording in silent mode, I understand to just send to a DAW and use a digital IR, makes sense.

But the PS-100 doesn’t go to Bypass/Stand-by when no cab is connected to the cab output port but you can send the amp only to FOH/Mixer/DAW without one?

Thank you for shedding light on this, as this is somewhat new territory for me.

Welcome to the forum!

In Silent Mode, you are getting the sound of your amp driving the internal reactive load which is then sent to the Balanced or Unbalanced Line Out.

As you correctly pointed out, that signal by itself will require processing through some kind of cab emulation to be of any use.

The original sound will not change whether or not you have a cab connected because your amp is always seeing the same load. When you have a cab connected, the cab is driven by the internal power amp in the PS-100, which again, has no effect on the load your amp is seeing.

Hope that helps!

Dave
