Early Power Station adopter here (I have 3!)
I’m gassing for a Super Reverb (2ohm) and whilst the PS2 and 100 are marked as supporting a 2/4ohm out, the PS1 is only marked for 4ohms
Are there any structural differences (‘core’ reactive impedance etc) that mean my PS1s are really less suited to use with the Super than the PS2?
Hi Benny,
Welcome to the forum!
The PS-1, 2, 2A, 100 and Power Load PL-1, PL-IR loads all operate the same way. All are compatible with 2 ohm amplifier loads in the 2/4 ohm setting, or 4 ohm setting in the case of the early PS-1.
For a more detailed explanation, please see:
Speaker impedance does mean something. Just not what you think it does. And looking at graphs and charts tell you something specific as well. Just not what you think they do.
We see this all the time. People always disregard the term 'nominal" and the fine print that defines what actually gets tested and why. The thing that is most often overlooked is context.
Speakers are tested at 1W in an anechoic chamber on a fixed infinite baffle and driven by fairly high powered solid state amp (at 1W) a…
Hope that helps!
