Would you recommend Sovteck 5881 wxt or 5881 wafer base?
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Could you link to the data sheet? I am unsure of the differences.
I was curious and asked a question after the following post mentioned that there is a difference. If there is no difference, can either be used for PS-2?
Well, electronically they are the same, so it just comes down to what fits. The longer base is probably easier to plug and unplug but you are not going to do that very often. It comes down to what fits. What is the length of the base of the current tubes in your PS-2?
I don’t have a PS-2 on hand right now, so I don’t know the specific length, but I am currently using RUBY’s 6L6GCMSTR.
Also, is it safe to say that there is no sound difference between 5881 wxt and 5881 wafar base?
Is it electrically or technically acceptable to use either vacuum tube?
Hey 1623guitar,
I think you have already spoken with Terry about this? But Yes 5881 is interchangeable with 6L6. They break up a little earlier and have a bit less output but all the biasing is the same. It’s just a military spec. version of the 6L6GC. The base is just a physical change to how the tube is mounted that won’t change the sound; just ensure that the longer base actually fits in the space.
