I tried to capture the problem with my cell in an unlisted video:
It really feels like something is not right with the power amp section on my unit. I’ve gone through the BHP demo and tried the same settings on my unit. Mine is getting a gross sounding distortion much earlier than what comes across in the video (I know, not scientific!).
This stacticy sound comes through the speaker out, IR & analog cab out. If it add a channel to one of my big amps, it sounds amazing.
I’m really hoping one of the tubes is bad, but I need some help. Any ideas?
Thanks!
OK, I’m pretty sure I found the problem. I just opened the top of the unit and from what I’m seeing it looks like the V4 tube ECC823 was switched with V3.
I’m pretty sure swapping these two will greatly improve (or 100% fix!) what I’m hearing. …but I want to ask here first because I don’t know if this can damage the unit. This was purchased new and came like this. Please let me know if I can swap them and be good to go or if I need to ship the unit back. Thanks!
Ok curiosity killed the cat. Switching the tubes seems to have resolved the issue and it sounds amazing now! I would still like to hear from the Fryette crew if there’s anything to be concerned about component/circuit wise, but I’m in business now.
