No sound from IR output

Just received the GPDI/IR. I can’t get any sound out of the IR output or the led light to blink. Direct out/ speaker sim and speaker out all work. The amp also has a lot of noise when the more switch is enabled.

Hi Ed536m,

When and where did you get the unit from? Also, can you supply me with the serial number?

Have you tried to load new IRs or were you just using it direct out of the box?

Received it today from Pitbull audio. #gpxa250171. Straight out of the box. Have not tried loading IR’s.

Do any of the IR section LEDs light up? If they do, do they change with the encoder knob?

Hey Terry,

Now it’s all working. Plugged the unit to check the IR files all were there and then it started working. The only issue I can’t figure out is that when I engage the more switch I get a lot of hum / noise. Almost unusable.

Hi Ed,

Can you take a video of it. The more switch does bring an entire gain stage in, but I’ve not heard it get extremely noisy. A video of the setup would be great too. This may be a ground issue. Have you tried the ground lift just in case?

I think I figured it out!! Thanks for all your help. I have a different question… if I want to connect a Kingsley Juggler in the effect loop can I bypass the Fryette preamp but still use the IR loader and analog speaker sim? How would that be accomplished?

Hi Ed,

You want to run it like an amp in external amp mode. Only difference is there’s no “amp return”. I’ll paste a diagram so you can see how it should be done. Like I said, just don’t worry about the “amp return” portion.

Thank you for that, do that I can wrap my brain around this. I’m trying to accomplish what I was doing with the tone king preamp. If I have the Kingsley juggler connected where the to amp input goes into the juggler and the out of the juggler goes to return amp fx, when I engage ext switch it will route the signal into the juggler and I can still use the power section and IR from the gpdi? Like I did with the tone king.
