Newbie Pre Sales Impedance Question

The LXII is showing an impedance matching switch… will I get 100W in bridged mono going into a 2x12 16ohm cab?

Welcome Rob!

You can use bridge mono mode going into a 16 Ohm cab. It covers this in the user manual. Technically the impedance has halved so it might output a bit less than 100 Watts. But it’s perfectly safe to do that.

Thank you Dan! A secondary consideration would be, if I were to rack this with a 4U Axe3 in a 6U container will I be OK with heat dissipation and where would the LXii be best placed leaving 1U between units (on top or below)?

I did not mean for this followup to be a new topic… Thank you Dan! A secondary consideration would be, if I were to rack this with a 4U Axe3 in a 6U container will I be OK with heat dissipation and where would the LXii be best placed leaving 1U between units (on top or below)?

Hi Rob,

I have always left a space between amplifiers and other units for more than just ventilation. In the past, we used to have “effects racks” and “amp racks”. This became extremely costly over time and the racks would be combined into one rack. To cure some rack issues, the space becomes important. I’ll go into what those are if anyone ever encounters it, but for now, it sounds like your just worried about airflow/ventilation. I would stick to leaving a space between the unit. Not because it absolutely needs it, but because its always best practice. I hope this answers your question.

Thanks Terry, When I built RETMA cabs for Unix systems in the 90’s we used to gobble up every inch of space we could find. Add some PDU’s and RAID shelves and we were ready to fry some eggs for breakfast… fan placement and airflow were critical in that environment. Here at least a 6U block gives me a little wiggle room but I’ve got to look at the specs to see who’s going to throw off the most heat… May have an impact for outside gigs in the summer.

What do you mean two R12000’s running at 400Mhz isn’t fast enough? lol.. I used to work with an SGI Octane 2 and an O2 running IRIX for a good amount of time. I totally get it.

Shock mounted racks were great for airflow when they hit the market, but the way the rails were attached to the main chassis made it hard sometimes to seperate units from one another when dealing with ground issues. Which rack are you using?

LOL… circa 2000, many years after Alpha 64 days, but please note genuine Australian Clarke Wallabee’s!

Yesssss, absolutely stylin’. All palletized and ready to go too!
