I purchased a used older VHT named Pitbull 100CL amp head. With no footswitch connected, the amp goes quiet when the graphic EQ selector button is pressed on the rear of the chassis. When this happens, the EQ sliders have no effect.
The rest of the amp appears to be functioning properly.
Any assistance or guidance on where to start to look for this issue without the schematic available to me.
We generally don’t walk owners through this kind of debugging process because it typically generates a lot of back and forth, and in the end the unit goes in for service with a local tech or with Fryette. I can help you with those options if you want.
Thank you very much for the response.
I don’t mind taking a crack at this. I have been an electronics tech for ages. I don’t want to have to subject you all to the back and forth so I will have a go at it see if I can deduce the issue. Now that I look at the board, it doesn’t look that complicated. But if I were to go to a Amp Tech in the Bay area, who would that be? Also, what would sending this back to you for a repair and potential tune up cost me?
OK, I know it can be fun doing this kind of thing, good luck! Personally don’t have any recommendations in the Bay Area, but we will work with a reputable repair shop local to you. Here is the Fryette RMA process: How can I send my product to Fryette for a repair (RMA Request)? - #2 the cost is packing + shipping + repair costs. And that is a good question. I need to check, if they have a flat bench fee… let me get back to you.
Great. Thank you very much for all the help on this. I want to see if I can deduce what the problem is before I send it back. But I will make sure not to break anything further and always use best HY safety practices.
The price is reasonable for servicing. The shipping is going to be the killer.
