I got one in January this year and it worked for 5 minutes on a Princeton Reverb. I brought it to a gig that evening and it would not work in Operate mode, but still passed signal in Bypass.
After going back and forth with Vintage King, we decided to just exchange the unit for a new one.
When I got the new one, it worked for a few minutes and thought I was happy with the performance.
I just turned it on again after a week or so if no using it, and the same thing happened:
No sound in Operate Mode, sound in Bypass Mode.
I checked the main fuse and it looked fine.
So, I went to Fryette website and saw the video of Joe Gore replacing tubes and fuses.
I opened the unit up and the internal fuse was blown.
So, I started reading the Stage and Studio: Power Station PS-100 and saw many complaints of this problem to many users and happening multiple times after swapping tubes and/or fuses.
I will now request replacement parts via this forum.
Other than swapping tubes and fuse, is there a permanent fix for this?
Firstly, we can only apologise for this inconvenience. Yes, several months ago we had tubes that defeated our QA process. They also defeated the QA process for the tube manufacture. We worked with them to improve their process and ours. We are now happy they are sending quality tubes.
Probably the reason for the double failure is that the replacement PS-100 was from the same batch. Note, not all Power Stations were affected; of course, being on the forum, you will see only the traffic relating to failures.
OK, so let’s get working on the solution. It will be best if we send you out replacement tubes.
To do that:
please open the unit and take a photo from about 12 inches away so we can read all of the writing on the inside and see all of the internals. This helps us understand the state of the unit and also tells us the “Ip” rating of the tubes.
Just a heads-up, the forum accepts replies by email, but when you do this, it takes the text and adds it to the post. I removed your full name, email and phone number from the post above for this reason.
The form is private; this is why we do all of that stuff off the forum.
OK, sounds good; just come here if you have any more issues. I suspect the shop will ship tubes next week now. I’m not sure they are open today. Usually Gil will reach out to you when they dispatch.
@Gil is on the forum; to message him, you and put an “@” sign in front of his username “Gil” like I did as the start of the sentence. This will send him a notification so he can easily respond.
I just sent this to Gil, but wanted to especially thank you.
I wanted to follow up and thank you for your support. I’ve been running the PS-100 for the last few days on a few different amps since getting tubes/fuses from you and it’s been holding up. Looking forward to using it in a live situation soon.
Thank you again for the quick turnaround with everything.
