Last night, right before show time, I hit the green power switch on my LX2 only to find it glowed then immediately turned off. On inspection of the 2A fuse on the rear panel - it was fried.
Luckily, I had a spare so I loaded it in and lo and behold it blew immediately once again.
So I grabbed my Ps2 and did the show.
I removed the lid today and can see no evidence of electrical breakdown or fried components. I have replaced all four valves in case that was the issue but it’s still popping fuses??
Does anybody have a clue as to what might be going on here?
I have limited knowledge of valve amp circuitry etc but was wondering if there is anything I can do or check or is it a trip to the repair shop?
If anybody has experienced this or knows what has happened to my amp I would be very grateful.
I reside in the U.K and I’m not sure if Fryette have an authorised repair/dealer here? If anybody could enlighten me that would be cool.
The serial number is LXKE220378.
If the amp needs work, is the warranty still in place?
Since the main fuse is blowing, something is shorting inside the amp. We can connect you with our UK partners if needed—by the way, is the unit still under warranty?
Before that, could you try this:
Open the unit and remove the power tubes.
Insert a new fuse and turn it on.
Let us know if the fuse still blows, and send us a clear photo of the inside (one frame-filling shot is fine).
If the fuse holds, the tubes may be the issue. Do you know the current (mA) rating of the tubes you’re using?
Here is a shot of the internals as requested. I don’t know the mA rating of the tubes but I have enclosed a photo of the valves that were supplied and installed when I bought the amp.
I am not sure whether the amp is covered under warranty? How would I find this out?
Also if I need tech assistance… Can you point me in the right direction.
OK, it’s a long shot but the only other user-replaceable parts are the preamp tubes. But yes, i think it’s best to refer this to a repair tech now.
When did you buy it and from whom? Peach Guitars? If inside the warranty period, the repair will be free of charge, but you will need to sort that out with the Dealer. If outside the warranty period, unfortunately, you will need to get it repaired yourself. In this case we can hook you up with people.
What’s your approximate location? You can private message me if you prefer to keep that confidential.
Get in touch with them ASAP and check what the warranty length is…
International dealers handle warranty and repairs, so we need to check with them.
Yes, if the mains fuse is blowing something attached to the power rails is shorting to ground. It could be an arc between valve socket pin, it could be a burn out component, it could be an arc somewhere else (more unlikely). It’s worth popping out the triode tubes too in case they are to blame.
