2 90 2 making noise, but only when using both channels. 4/12 on the right is fine but when I turn on the left it has a hum in it. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so what is the solution? Thanks
Welcome to the forum!
A low level hum could be a bad preamp tube.
How old is the amp? When was it last serviced?
Thanks,
Dave
Bout a year old & never been serviced.
Where would one send this power amp to get serviced?
If you’re in the continental US, you would send it to the factory.
You can contact the factory for an RMA by emailing the following info to support@fryette.com:
Full Name
Phone Number
Address
Serial number
Place and Date of purchase.

I purchased the 2902 right around the end of December or the beginning of January. I’ve only used the amplifier several times at low volume and mine is also making that hum on channel A. so I have a couple of questions, would it be all right for me to attempt swapping tubes and or possibly replacing them myself if this is the issue? shipping this monster all the way to California from Michigan is probably going to cost more money than it’s worth if that is all it is. I just want to make sure that I’m not going to void the warranty by doing something like that. also was wondering if it does need to come in what are the costs in doing that? What am I responsible for? I am competent enough to diagnose tube issues myself but if it’s anything beyond that it will be coming in.
All questions I need answered as well as mine is still humming on channel A as well ..
I’m just thinking I’m going to get a refund at this point. Mine is less than three months old. The music store I purchased it from is willing to give me a refund. I’m not gonna chase people down on forums when this is a brand new product that shouldn’t have any issues at all. Any other company I have dealt with was willing to replace the item immediately without question and I’m not even able to contact someone to tell them that I’m having an issue because no one responds to the email or the phone. this is a $2000 amplifier and it showed up defective. That should not be my problem to deal with. if I would have realized going in that it was this difficult to contact these people and this is the way I had to go about doing it I wouldn’t have bought the amp in the first place honestly. I don’t have time for this horse shit.
Gonna pinpoint the problem by doing a tube swap with the 2 different preamp tubes First swapping out the 12 ax 7 and see if it goes to channel B and if not then try swapping the 12AU7A / ECC82 s and see if that changes the hum to channel b If so instant easy fix just one tube.. Which I suspect that’s all it is.. Might want to try that yourself before getting rid of it.. Great amp small problem, if that’s all it is..![]()

If not.. Gonna have to send mine to back to ZZounds for a refund
i’m going to attempt the same this weekend and see what I come up with. I purchased mine from the same place that you did so that’s a little strange in itself that a couple of these things came out of there doing the exact same thing, wonder if it’s a handling issue. I mean these things are pretty durable but if they’re getting slammed around then tubes can get loose. when I’m in mine I’m going to double check all of the tubes including the power section just to make sure everything is seated properly. I hear what you’re saying, this is a nice amplifier I just don’t want these problems if I can avoid it. sorry my last post was a little spicy, was just extremely frustrated because I’ve been trying to get this rack together for the past several months and then I finally get everything done and this problem pops up.
Don’t feel bad, It’s been months since mine started acting up and had just spent 6500 on a synergy rig with Axe3 with this Fryette 2 90 2 poweramp and 2 4x12 cabs to do a tour with an Ozzy tribute, and had to end up taking my Kemper on the road instead, and feels like I wasted 6k..Have to take apart the whole rack and send the Axe 3 back too, over an update issue freeze up as well.. Thank God for my Kemper..
Good luck brother.. Let me know how it works out.. Still haven’t had the gumption to take this whole rack apart and start tearing into the tube situation yet..Probably get on it this weekend and send out my Axe 3 on Monday.
I have some good news, it was the tubes. specifically it was the tube furthest to the left. not sure if you’ve looked at any diagrams yet but when you open the cover the preamp tubes are going to be in a row from left to right in the front closest to the front panel. The pair on the left is the left channel and the pair on the right is the right channel. In each pair the left tube is 12ax7 and right is 12au7. I started out with swapping the12au7s and no dice and then I swapped the 12ax7s and the buzzing moved from channel A to B. so that far left tube was bad. inside of the amplifier is laid out super clean and everything is easy to get to so you shouldn’t have much issue if any. Dave emailed me and said that he would provide a replacement tube to replace the bad tube. definitely inquire about that if you do not already have tubes. to save yourself a little bit of time anyways, I would attempt swapping the 12ax7s { tubes 1 and 3 } first as I suspect it’s probably the same issue with yours as with mine.. they probably got a sketchy batch of 12ax7s and unfortunately with tubes they usually fail quite quickly or they last quite a long time and so I’m assuming that’s probably what the issue is.
I hope the info helps and I sincerely hope you get yours up and running quickly.
Great minds think alike! lol.
you purchased almost the exact same equipment that I did. we both have this amp obviously and we both have synergy syn 2s and fractal. I went with the ecstasy and Uber modules and I’m using the vp4 in stereo in my drawer. cabs are 2 2x12s loaded with evm12l black label speakers.
huge ozzy fan.
also have source audio eq2 and morningstar mc8 pro midi foot controller and shure slxd wireless. now that I have this tube issue figured out I’m hoping I can get the show on the road lol.
Awesome:slightly_smiling_face:![]()
Hell yeah!! I got the Uberschall and the 2C+..
Thanks so much for the info!! So glad it worked!!.Bet you’re glad you went and checked the tubes now
Gonna go ahead and figure out which one it is tomorrow and fix this beast!
Hey there.. Just wondering if you got the new tube in there yet?? Just realized my other side started buzzing and just gonna get me a matched set of JJ’s to throw in there.. Was gonna say you might wanna do the same .. I mean get a spare matched one just in case..![]()

my friend brought me over 2 nos genalex 12ax7
if that doesn’t fix the problem then something else has to be wrong. So far so good on my other channel but I’m gonna throw these tubes in here tonight and see what I get. I just temporarily swapped out the tubes from one of my synergy modules until I got these ones. those 1950s genaleex were made with Better tolerances and they should hold up for years
