Issue using reactive load switches with headphones

Hi, just got the PL-IR and while the IR feature running into an audio interface sounds well and normal, I’m running into odd behavior with the headphones out; specifically when engaging the reactive load brigth and edge positions. There’s an excessive amount of distorted noise (not the good kind), not just coming from the headphones themselves, but the PL-IR box - it rattles and vibrates to pitch. Truly, if you remove your headphones but keep them plugged in, and play your guitar, the unit vibrates according what whatever note frequency is hit; almost like there’s a dead speaker inside the box thats resonating.

This doesnt happen when in the flat position. The depth reactive load switch on the other hand is just fine.

This is a drag because that feature of the box is essentially useless with headphones.

This issue is unique to headphones. Haven’t tried Cab Sim functionality yet, but I didn’t run into this issue going from XLR to Audio Interface.

Any thoughts?

Anyone run into this?

Hi!

I think the headphones are a redherring here. There is a lot of energy going into that small PL-IR package and most of it gets turned into heat. But some of it (the bit going into the reactive components) gets turned into magnetic and electric fields. This explains why it gets worse when “more reactive” and goes away when “less reactive”. This is why it follows the note being played. This is normal to a degree. But you seem to be saying that it makes the unit unusable, so it could mean this needs to be sent back home for an inspection. Can you send a clip so I can hear what you are hearing then we can figure out a bit more before sending hit home?

Hi Dan, happy to. What’s the best way to correspond from here - dm?

Here or PM is fine. Just post and audio clip if you can. No point in sending it back if it’s fixable or something else.
