Huge sudden volume drop with PS2A

Hi there,

Had the PS-2A for about a month now, and not used it much; was testing it at home yesterday with a modeller (AXE FX 3) before tomorrow’s gig, and worked great.

Volume was great, had the PS2A on ‘Hi’, and volume knob at about 8 o’clock into 1x12. Today however, there’s a HUGE volume drop; nothing has changed in the Fractal. Also tried going into the Return FX input of the PS2A, same thing. Tried different cables and cab as well, same issue.

The valves look fine.

Also tried it with a valve amp, and the volume is again VERY low - as in, talking volume, even when the volume knob is cranked.

Hey @FarleyUK welcome to the forum,

If you toggle between operate/bypass with the amp, do you get back to full volume? If yes, then this shows the PS-2A is not putting out sound.

Sounds like you have done some of these steps, but please go through them we find it helps people a lot catch things,

Resolved the issue - the 12AX7 valve was faulty.

Not impressed it failed after a month with hardly any use…!

It’s rare, very rare, that preamp tubes fail. In fact, this is the first one I can remember since the forum started. Sorry, yes, that’s very annoying, but I’m glad it turned out to be something simple. Fryette does burn-in testing, but when you ship 1000s of units, it is inevitable that some failures like this occur in the field. Could you send me your PS-2A serial number?
