Hi to all, just a simple question. How do I load my own IRs in the GPDI/IR… I didn’t found anything in the owner manual.
Ok I finally found the answear ![]()
For anyone wondering. Turn OFF the GPDI IR and then plug the USB cable.
Welcome to the community.
You got it! ![]()
I just received my gpdi/ir - I am on a Mac. When I shut it down and then plug in usb the unit still doesn’t show up as a drive. Any other troubleshooting steps.
Thanks!
Howie
Ps I tried with cable plugged in, unplugged (not sure why that would work but for the other ir loader it advises unplugged), unit turned on after usb is plugged in and also off - never shows up.
will answer my own question – it was probably the usb cable – tried another cable directly to my MacBook Pro and worked fine. Just for future reference – shut the unit down – it can still be plugged in. plug in the usb cable – the impulse response led’s will light up and “no name” drive will show up on the computer as a readable/modifiable drive. When you are done eject the drive from your computer, unplug usb cable and turn unit on and you are good to go.

Hi Howie,
Unfortunately not all USB C cables are alike. I’m glad you have one that works! It has to be a USB-C Charge and Sync Cable, it’s a plus if the company also made it reversible by using all of the pins. I placed this in the other post as well but I’m putting the diagram and instructions here as well for continuity.
Thanks,
Terry
Weird, I am unable to see the USB folder no_name (or anything else) on Windows 10, having tried two different cables the work for data transfer for my phone. Can anyone point me to the right cable on Amazon that they’ve confirmed works?
Just to confirm for the USB folder to appear the GPDI/IR needs to be UNPOWERED and only be connect to the PC by your USB Cable.
Yes I saw that. I’m connecting it while unpowered. I get the 2 lights on the IR section once I plug it in, but no folder on the PC in windows 10 with two different cables. Both of the cables I’m using have worked for data transfer with other devices.
OK, well, the IR section is getting powered by the PC. So that does indicate that the cable is giving it 5V it needs to turn on. In this mode it’s a standard USB disk, what do you see in Windows Device Manager? I’ve never had this issue with the GPDI/IR before, but I have had USB devices that windows knows are there but for whatever reason, it does not mount them.
- USB gives power
- Let’s rule out that this is a Windows issue by checking if Window’s can see the device
- Try forcing Windows to mount it.
If you cannot see the device in Windows, this points to the cables not being data cables or the data lines being broken. I know you said you checked this with two cables and know they are data cables, but it’s the most likely outcome.
Let’s take it from there and get you up and running ASAP.
Let me know how you get on
Thank you. Yes windows is notorious with USB issues displaying connected devices. I’ll keep working that angle and maybe get a new cable I need to. It’s not a super urgent thing for me because frankly I like the IR’s included here better than any I’d load onto it. But would like to be able to offload them for use in DAW or with other devices. Is there an alternative data source where I could download the stock IR’s?
Can’t reiterate enough how great the GPDI IR is. It seems like every use case I throw at it, it performs better than the device I had been using… for direct recording, into the PS2A and cabs, or even direct into a cab mic’d sounded great (which I didn’t fully expect given the low volume). Such a great product!
Hey,
Ok, come back when ready.
Regarding the stock IRs feel free to make a backup of them, they come preloaded on each GPDI/IR.
Glad you are enjoying it!
Hmm ok stull no luck with a 3rd usbc > usb a cable specifically rated for data transfer. Unfortunately since I cant connect and offload, I have no way to get the IR files.
I also noticed that the clip light on the IR section doesnt seem to work. It doesn’t come on, even at maxed out settings. The IRs are definitely in the sound. The green lights in the 2x4 rows change and the sounds change as well.
Hi,
Maybe a stupid question. Do you use a USB HUB ? Have you tried different usb ports ? Do you use usb-c to usb adapter ?Tried on another computer ? It seems to me that the problem comes from the PC side even if an another USB “thing” works correctly…and by the way I had similar problems with cables. The one who worked perfectly was my iPhone cable..
Hope you’ll find solution ![]()
Yeah those were some of my same thoughts too. No hub, no adapters just 3 different USBC > USBA data transfer cables. I’ve tried on 3 different windows machines and also an android tablet. None of them see the folder / removable drive. No options in Windows for “Unknown device” or anything like that in the USB part of the device manager tree.
Ok I finally got it, thaks all. The FOURTH USB-C to USB-A Cable I tried did it! I guess this thing really just is that picky about cables. Just wanted to pass this along for others.
Thanks for coming back!
It any identification on the nonfunctional and functional cables that would be good to know, a photo maybe?
Here’s a photo. Nothing really special about this one… just plain black and I had it in a drawer somewhere.
Yeah. Ok, thanks again for the feedback.
