High-pitch noise when using fx loop

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Fryette PS-2 power station for my setup, and I get a horrible high-pitched squeal when using the FX loop. Remove the Effects loop, and it seems to work fine.

I have included a video of the issue. I have tried to insert a Lehle P-Iso in the signal pathway with no luck.

Any thoughts of advice would be much appreciated

Regards

Kim

Hi Urban,

Where are you placing the ISO transformer?

Thank You,

Terry

Hey mate,

Got it sorted. I had been trying the isolator in the FX loop. I ended up trying it between the Boss ES8 and the input of the amp. Noise has gone.

Thanks for replying

Kim

Hi Kim,

Perfect! I’m glad it’s all sorted.

Cheers,

Terry

I’m having this exact same issue, except instead of an iso splitter, it happens when I run my noise gate in the loop. I’m using a Lichtlaerm Audio The Key and The Gate noise gate, which has similar I/O as a Boss NS2. Meaning you can run it on your board in your signal chain while simultaneously running it in the effects loop. I get the exact same high pitch squeal. It also happens when I’m running line out to my nano cortex, which is killing my ability to capture my amps. Very frustrating. Did you find a fix besides just taking your ISO splitter out of the loop on the power station?

Hi Terry

I have it in front of the amp input. I have also noticed that if my 2 metallic patch leads touch when inserted in to the ISO, I get the high pitch squeal. I have placed a piece of rubber between the 2 connectors and that has sorted the noise.

I’ll take a photo and send through to you.

Terry is no longer on the team.

Here is a video that fully explains your issue and its resolution.

The problem with side chain noise gates like The Gate and The Key is that they aggravate the ground loop issue. The lack of ground isolation in such devices is what makes these problematic in complex signal chains like this.
