Help needed - squealing

I just received my PS2A, and connected it to my EVH 5150 EL35 50W head & 2 x 12 cab. When I turn them on, I get a very loud squeal, and immediately powered them down to avoid damage.

The cables are the Fryette speaker cables, and they are routed correctly. I am wondering if I have the impedance wrong. I have the Fryette set to 16ohm for the speaker and the amp, and the amp load impedance is set at 16. However, the amp speaker out section says “4ohm min 50W Total”

Could it be that I have the impedance wrong, and that is the cause of the squeal?

Hi Lieu and welcome to the forum!

This could be a few things, but probably a ground loop.

This can be quite complicated to understand, but the solutions Joe demonstrates here are simple to implement:

Unplug everything and start again. Make sure you only have one wall connection powering your entire rig.

It could also be a magnetic issue depending on how close the PS-2A is to your amp and guitar:

Post a picture of your setup will help.

Below are pictures of my set up. I do not have any effects running through the Fryette or the amp right now. My PS2A is on top of my amp, and my guitar is 2 feet away from the rig. I do have the amp and the Fryette plugged into the same outlet.

If you are using a lot of gain on the amp, two feet is pretty close. especially if the pickups are single coil or high output types.

Did you try pressing the ground lift switch on the pack of the PS?

Dave

Thank you Dave! I pressed the ground lift, and it works beautifully now!
