Have I cooked my Powerstation?

Hey all, hoping someone can help me figure out if I’ve just fried my gear.

I was using my Quad Cortex to capture my Woogie bass head, with the Fryette Power Station handling the load. I’ve done this before with no issues, but this time smoke started coming out of the fan on the top right of the Power Station, along with that classic electrical burning smell. I shut everything off immediately.

There’s no visible damage to either unit, but the smell is definitely coming from the Fryette. The Woogie head seems fine.

And yes, I’m an idiot—I only realised afterward that the Woogie is a 500-watt head, while the Fryette is only rated for 200 watts.

Unfortunately, I can’t get it looked at for another 6 weeks. I’ve called around everywhere and there are very limited amp techs in my area willing to work on it.

Think I’ve totally cooked it, or could it be something minor like a fuse or cap that blew before it got too bad? Anyone had anything similar happen?

Hey Munchies. Welcome to the forum.

This is definitely the place to be when you’ve totally disregarded the manual warnings before going for broke

Seriously though, the likelihood that you did anything horrendous to the unit is low.

The Woogie reference tells me you’re probably in Australia, but please let us know where you’re located, the serial number of the unit, and when and where you purchased it.

Also, please post a photo of the unit from 12" above straight down with the top off. Good light and hi resolution please.

Cheers,

Dave

Hey Dave, really appreciate the warm welcome and your reply. Thank you!

Yes, I’m in Australia based in Melbourne. I purchased the unit online from Better Music in Canberra back in Aug 2023 and the serial number is PSK226817.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I’ve just uploaded four images of the unit with the top off with good lighting as you asked.

I’m feeling very silly for not reading the manual warnings before plugging the Woggie in, but I did get a great capture of the head haha.

If you had a recommendation of where in Melbourne I could get it serviced that would really help. I had a great phone call with the team at https://www.weztech.com.au/ and they are willing to take a look. However they are unfamiliar with the unit and not sure if they can repair depending on whats wrong.

Hoping you can point me in the right direction. Thanks again for your reply and help!!

I’m a new user and can only upload one image at a time, so I’ll post the others as replies.

Thanks for the pics.

I need one more of the board behind the input/output jacks. In your first photo in the lower right area I need to see in between the board and rear panel.

Honestly, unless there is a non functioning feature, you probably didn’t damage anything. The smoke was more likely just thermal compound outgassing under the heat.

Thanks,

Dave
