GPDI / IR with PS-100 identical Sound to Pitfall/ Deliverance sound possible?

Hello together,

I have the following questions:

Are the sounds of the Pitbull and Deliverance modes identical to the amplifiers of the same name, or what exactly is the difference? I’m wondering if I can achieve the exact same sound with a PS-100 (I own one) and the GPDI IR as with the amplifiers, for example, using a 2x12 speaker cabinet. Of course, the GPDI IR’s controls are more limited compared to the amps. But is the sound nearly identical? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hello,

The one thing about Fryette amplifiers that sets them far apart from other amps is the feel of the entire amp. It’s in the dynamics of the amplifiers. That’s what the dynamics section of the GPDI-IR is all about. Preamplifier sections are easy to replicate. Steve really found a way to get the GPDI-IR to sound like the originals and give you the ability to adjust the feel to match the amplifiers as well.

The Pittbull Ultra-Lead is known for its dynamic range and the fact that you really have to watch not just what you play, but how you play it. It really requires you to hone your skills. The Deliverance is a beast of an amp that makes you want to dig in and riff away. In other words, rock whatever venue you are in. Can you get those sounds from the GPDI-IR, yes, and so much more.

The thing to think about is what you need. If you’re looking to use it as a single channel amplifier live, it’s perfect for that. If you’re looking for a multi-channel amp, that’s not this unit. You can use it with another amplifier and add a channel to that though. An example is you have a two channel amp and really want the UL lead sound. Easy day. You like your lead sound but want the raw heavy Deliverance chug and clarity for your rhythm tone, also easy to get with the GPDI-IR.

To answer the question of are they exactly like the original amplifiers, no. Amps are much more than the preamplifier sections. Can you get very close, yes. I’d like to say every Fryette amplifier has its own thing going on. In the end with all Fryette amps, it’s really down to the player. I don’t sound like Page Hamilton when I play. Sounding like Page Hamilton doesn’t come from the amp. So if I play Helmet songs, it sounds like Terry playing Helmet.

I hope all that makes sense and helps!

Thank You,

Terry

Terry, thank you very much for your answer. Could you please give me hint on how to add the gpdi ir to my existing amp as an extra channel? As I wrote I have a powerstation 100 and some tube amp heads. I think this would be a perfect solution for me.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards
Michael
