GPDI/IR Running Hot

I was watching Michael Nielson demo the GPDI/IR and was blown away with all of the options, most importantly, the tone and I bought one. I love the IR’s and Analog Cab options but running it into a closed back 1x12 with a 57 sounds HUGE. After twisting some knobs, I went to the recommended starting points in the manual and that opened up a lot of tonal options.

I noticed it gets hot on the top right and was wondering if that’s normal and ok to run this unit for a few hours at a clip?

Another killer piece of gear from Fryette, the gold standard of Bad Ass tone.

Hi Alex,

Firstly, welcome to the forum! Secondly, the GPDI/IR is a tube preamp, you have the tubes themselves and the power supply fairly close to that area. Heat is going to happen. If it becomes excessive, then there would be an issue. I won’t name names, but I have used a couple of products that have removed paint due to heat during use. The GPDI/IR was designed to be used as an amplifier; a few hours won’t be an issue at all. I hope this helps.

Thank You,

Terry
